Your Changing Body: Feel-Good Tips

Many first-time mommies dream of the radiant glow that comes with being pregnant – the perfect mommy-to-be look that leaves us feeling excited and full-to-the-brim with love. However, there might come a time when we feel less than desirable, a little sore and overwhelmed, and in dire need of a confidence boost. Thankfully, there are a number of helpful tips and tricks to ensure that you feel good, stay healthy and maintain your glow throughout your pregnancy.

As our little human grows, our bodies change – some women don’t experience much of a change, while others may experience something a little more drastic. From acne and weight gain, to swollen ankles and exhaustion, moms-to-be often wish for some sort of relief. New moms are meant to be nurtured and pampered, so take some time out to take care of yourself – always remember that a happy Mom will result in a happy baby! Put a smile on your face and feel good.  Simply devote a few minutes to yourself with these helpful tips. Here they are:

Get Moving

Often, when we’re feeling a little dull and bloated, the last thing that we want to do is get up and exercise. However, a short burst of moderate exercise has the power to make you feel infinitely better – not only will your body feel less overwhelmed by the experience, but your mood will also improve! Simply lace up a good pair of walking shoes, arm yourself with some sunscreen and a bottle of water, and head out for a brisk walk around the block.

Embrace the Good Hair

Not only does pregnancy give you a beautiful glow, it also gives your locks a lustrous shine. There is nothing better than a professional wash and blow wave, especially when your hair naturally looks wonderful! Treat your tresses to some TLC and book yourself a treatment, trim, wash and blow wave (and perhaps get your nails done at the same time) – not only will you feel better, you’ll also amplify your lovely glow.

Get Creative with Your Makeup

New Mommies can sometimes experience a bit of acne and pigmentation during their pregnancy. If this has happened to you, don’t feel despondent – you’re bringing a little person into the world! It’s wonderful and miraculous. However, it is important that you ensure that you exude these marvellous feelings and feel good about yourself. With a bit of makeup, you can hide any pregnancy-related spots and bumps. Make use of a concealer to cover up, use a highlighter to emphasise your beautiful glow and add a pretty shade of lipstick to the mix, and you’re good to go!

There are also times when all you need is some rest and relaxation in the comfort of your own home. If you’ve already begun ‘nesting’, why not unpack your little one’s clothing and give it a good wash to ensure that it feels soft and smells delicate?

Simply add a cup of your favourite fabric softener to your wash, let the cycle run its course and enjoy the quiet time of folding and packing away your baby’s new goodies. For a new mom, there is nothing better than the infectious excitement that is brought about by the simple act of folding up a sweet little baby blanky.

Whichever way you choose to embrace your changing body, always remember that your glow outweighs any changes that might make you feel uncomfortable. Feel good about yourself, stay healthy and enjoy the journey!
